Hove 3rd XV fight back from being 17-0 down just before half time to win 26-22!
Hove 3rd XVs vs Brighton and Sussex Medics
This was a game to cement 2nd place on the league table and push for promotion for either team for
the following Season, This game was considered a double header so double points was up for grabs
for the winner. So no pressure for either side!
Medics came out the blocks knowing what was at stake, a very technical team who were good at the
breakdown were quick at the ruck and playing phase ball kept using their backs effectively and
scored after relentless pressure on the Hove line and score on the side. 0 – 5 Conversion Missed
Hove came back and got the ball back and attacked the medics line and breached their defensive
line but unable to cross the try line and a couple of mistakes gave the ball back to the Medics who
attacked and move the ball up the field a couple of missed tackles gave Medics and easy try.
0 – 10 Conversion missed
After Hove kicked, Medics kept the ball came back and using their 8 effectively gained territory and
for the next 10 minutes parked inside the 5 metre of Hove’s try line unable to breach the line. Hove
unable to get the ball back kept defending until an error gave Medics the option wide and scored.
Try 0 - 17 Conversion successful.
With time running out Hove woke up and attacked the Medics getting the ball back from the kick off,
support and team work got them within 5 metres, further phases allowed for Hove to score
underneath the posts on the half time. Try 7 – 17 Conversion successful
Hove started the half where it left off and took the ball from Medics who knocked on when they
recover the ball from their own kick off and from the ensuing scrum Hove attacked the line and after
several phases able to score next to the posts. Try 14 – 17 Conversion Successful
Medics kept their composure and attacked Hove moving the ball up the field using their style of
phase rugby to their advantage. For the next 10 minutes went back and forwards between the
teams until Medics got the ball back and moved up the line again and a couple of defensive errors by
Hove allowed Medics to take advantage and score on the side. Try 14 – 22 Conversion missed
Hove attacked from the kick off and got the ball back and Phases and constant attack finally allowed
the ball to move wide and able to score. Try 19 – 22 Conversion missed
With 15 minutes to go both teams increased the intensity and attacked each other’s line unable to
move the ball forward or break the gain line enough to score, several penalties against Medics got
the ball back to Hove and following a scrum an individual piece of play by the Hove fly half and run
60 metres from the Hove 10 metre line to score on the side of the posts.
Try 26 – 22 Conversion Successful.
With 4 minutes left on the clock Medics attacked from the ensuing kick-off. Hove move the ball and
lost possession. Medics moved the ball and with the clock running out attempt to use their strength
in the backs, however good tackling and a knock on got the ball back for Hove who kicked the ball out.
FINAL SCORE 26 – 22 HOVE WINS!
