Hellingly 22 - 7 Hove 2nd XV (Beefeaters)
After a 3 week break, The Beefeaters were back on the playing field for their last away game of the Season to Hellingly who themselves were chasing 3rd place on the table. Hove with a mixture of young and old players arrived with the expectation of a win against a strong pack.
The game started with a plan of moving the ball and away from their set piece; however this game was marred by too many “interesting” refereeing decisions against both sides, which made it a long afternoon and baffled coaches and managers alike.
Any game continuity was killed by the constant whistle of the referee and interpretation of the advantage law.
Hellingly in the first half took advantage of the circumstances and able to move the ball forward and attack the gain line and scored within 20 minutes with a miss conversion. 5 – 0
Hove by then started to panic and been pinned down by the barrage of penalties didn’t help when they had possession, instead of playing our brand of rugby tried for the big play in 1 phase and made unforced errors and knock-ons unable to take opportunities of the ball possession. Hellingly got the ball back and a penalty in front of the posts gave them the lead 8 – 0
Hove were able to move the ball and after several phases and penalties against the home side put the ball inside the 22 metre to the side of the posts, with gave them the opportunity to score at the half, the penalty was missed and despite forward movement by Hellingly players the missed penalty was allowed to stand.

Hove started off the blocks from the kick off and a series of penalties against Hellingly allowed for Hove to move the ball and after several phases able to score underneath the posts. Conversion successful. 8 – 7
For the next 10 – 15 minutes penalties kept passing possession backs and forwards Hove again failed to capitalise when they had possession, Hellingly got the ball back and started to move ball, a couple of penalties gave them the territory and able to score conversion was successful 15 – 7
Kick off was taken but Hove was able to take possession however a controversial penalty gave the ball back to Hellingly who took advantage of the ball and move the ball down the field after a quick tap and a kick down the field a try was awarded to Hellingly despite pushing the defender when he didn’t have the ball. Conversion successful 22 – 7
After the kick off Hove got the ball and again tried to move the ball and mistakes from Hove stopped them from getting into scoring territory. Hellingly got possession but not able to capitalise time run out.
