Saturday 3 February - 1st XV Men away to KCS Old Boys. Sunday 4 February - 1st XV Women home to Brighton University

Hello,

This weekend was a busy one at the club, on Friday nearly 100 members were down for the Quiz Night, it was great to see so many down including a table from our sponsors Nicholas James. Before the evening was over there were requests for another one so Dean has leapt back into action and we will be quizzing again on Friday 8th March. Be quick if you want a place as some tables have already been snapped up. Contact Dean to book your place secretary@hoverugby.club.

On Saturday the men’s first team won 46 – 5 against Trinity and was great to have so many people down for the lunch with a table booked out by a group of former players who all played a game together back in January 1974. We also hosted some guests from Norway who were visiting the city and wanted to experience a local sports club. It took a bit of explaining when the first team appeared from the changing room all dressed as stereotypical French men ready for their cheeses and wine social! The women travelled away to Hampstead on Sunday losing 24 – 5.

This weekend the league fixture gods have again given us a weekend with no home games as the firsts are on the road to KCS Old Boys, the Beef are away at Eastbourne and on Sunday the women have a development game against Brighton University.

This weekend does however mark the start of the Six Nations and we will be showing all the matches starting with what should have been the world cup final if those pesky southern hemisphere teams hadn’t beaten us in the semi-final! With Dupont away playing 7s to secure an Olympic spot and Ireland having to fill the gap left by Jonny Sexton it should be an intriguing match. The clubhouse bar and kitchen will be open from 6:00 on Friday evening. Saturday sees Italy v England at 2:15 and Wales v Scotland at 4:45. Family and friends are welcome to join members enjoy the tournament.

Don’t forget to book your place at the Volunteers Dinner on the 16th February, open to all who volunteer in any way and also anyone who is thinking of volunteering. A chance for the club to say thank you with a meal and a few drinks for all of us who spend our time keeping the club running. To book contact Dean on secretary@hoverugby.club.
