Hove v Crowborough
Hove make it 4 from 4!
Sunday 8th January : Mild and Sunny morning!
Shaun and the Crowborough boys just managed to get to 15 aside in time for KO and made a great start to the match with the opening try inside 3 mins. (0-5)
That seemed to wake the Hove boys up with a fairly swift try in reply by Jacob. (5-5)
Hove took a strangle hold on the 1st half at that point with Cameron scoring from close range, then Miggi flew down the wing beating 5 defenders, Jake smashed his way through the centre and finally JJ closed out the 1st half with one of those runs coaches hate, sideways! (31-5)
Unfortunately Crowborough lost their No 7 to an HIA and with no replacements hove also reduced their numbers down to 14 just before half time.
With his eye swallen Crowborough's No 7 was not to return to the field and so the rest of the game was played 14 aside.
Hove did make a number of changes at half time which whilst providing some fresh legs did seem to cause some disruption, however Jake made another powerful run and opened the scoring in the 2nd half.
Crowborough were not giving up though and with some loose tackles that started far too high, their winger went in, in the corner. (38-10)
The second half saw some tit for tat scoring with Ross scoring (his first League try?!) in the corner, followed by another by Crowborough, then Tom flew in under the posts but Crowborough again replied. (50-20)
Final try following a swiftly taken penalty was all hands and passing out to Ross on the wing again who got his second and closed out the game. (57-20)
All round best performance so far and "Men of the Match!" on this occasion would go to the power runners : Jake, Jacob, JJ and Captiain Casper.
I did throw in a few words of wisdom at Half time and the one Area that needs addressing for the Heathfield and Eastbourne games is the boys must remember this is a Team game, not one of Individuals. The Coaches do not look at who scores and whether they handed of half the other team on the way to the line, after all Rugby is a game of Evasion!!
Well done and don't forget training next Sunday with Heathfield postponed to the 5th Feb due to Sussex Fixtures.
