Brave performance against an outstanding Horsham team
We survive to fight another day
We travelled to top of the table Horsham in hope rather than expectation, with a significantly weakened team due to injuries and unavailability. That's not to take anything away from a Horsham team that was outstanding - physical, fast and skilful. Despite, starting slowly and losing a prop after only 5 minutes with a shoulder injury, we regrouped and stopped the early flow of tries. Indeed we spent much of the second quarter in Horsham's half, but were unable to convert possession and territory into points.
Inevitably the physical pressure began to tell in the second half and as we suffered more injuries, our weakened bench was emptied and we played the final 15 minutes with only 14 players and with unopposed scrums. A ruthless Horsham team kept up the pressure and there was little we could do to stop them scoring freely in the final minutes.
Positives we took away were from some outstanding tackling and yet more evidence that in defence as well as well as attack our pace can trouble even the best teams. When the league reconvenes in November we will have closed the gap.
