Lots to cheer about on a cold sunny day in Horsham
Mixed results but a very positive day for Hove U13 girls
Today we went to Horsham where we played a combined Horsham/Worthing team and then joined forces with Horsham to play Eton Manor who had travelled from East of London for the fixture.
The girls started the first game with much more confidence than they had done the week before. They were passing well, moving forward and putting in some great tackles. They also seemed to abandon their previous politeness and were ruthlessly going for loose balls. Despite this they went into half time 3 - 1 down, Sasha having used her pace and eye for space to open the scoring for Hove. In the second half they came out for more of the same. Horsham had one player who was very quick on the break and managed to score a number of tries but Hove successfully kept her score rate down and managed two scores in the second half, one from Tiger and another from Sasha. The game finished 6 – 3.
In the second game against Eton Manor our girls were joined by 3 Horsham players. Although Eton Manor quite quickly opened the scoring, Hove came back strongly with tries from Sissy, Keira, Evie and a Horsham player before half time. In the second half there were two more scores from Keira and one from a Horsham player and Eton Manor got one back to bring the score to 7 – 2.
I think the girls had lots of fun today and they were all fully committed to the games with great passing, rucking, mauling, tackling and a steely determination. It’s always hard to single out one player when so many have played so well but today’s coach and managers player of the match is Sissy. She was relentless in her approach to both attack and defence with strong tackling, passing and great runs forward.
