U13s first game of the season vs. Pulborough
No fireworks but plenty of sparklers
Today we welcomed Pulborough to the club for the first in the Waterfall series of matches. The girls made a tentative start. Although they were showing off some quality passing they seemed a bit nervous about moving forward. Despite some great tackling from Megan, Keira and Sissy, Pulborough managed to score 5 tries fairly quickly. Then Keira made a break forward, offloaded to Sissy just in time who gained more ground then passed to Lois who managed to score. This gave the girls some confidence and they started to look dangerous moving forward and managed to keep the opposition’s scoring in check. The first half finished Hove 1, Pulborough 8.
In the second half we saw more of what we know the girls are capable of. It was great to see Phoebe running forward so confidently with the ball – especially when one of those runs culminated in a try. Tackling improved too in the second half and as a result they only managed to score another 5. Lois was involved in all aspects of the game throughout and was a thoroughly deserved player of the match, nominated by Pulborough.
Frankly I think the 2-13 scoreline flattered Pulborough and I was really proud of the way the girls didn’t give up. It was the first ever proper match for 4 of our players and there was nothing on the field to show that was the case. Lots of positives to build on in our next match against Horsham on Sunday
